Trezor Wallet at a Glance

The Trezor Hardware Wallet was the first physical Bitcoin wallet to be introduced to the cryptocurrency world in 2014. It is designed and manufactured by Satoshi Labs located in Prague, Czech Republic. Even though the product is made in Europe, it can be purchased and shipped to most countries via their website or Amazon.

They have been making Bitcoin/blockchain security related apps, services and products since 2013. The Trezor Hardware Wallet is among their most popular products to date, and is currently their only physical Bitcoin related product. The Trezor is very affordable but also highly practical and today it even supports a number of additional cryptocurrencies beyond Bitcoin.

How to use the Trezor Wallet

Using the Trezor Bitcoin Wallet is actually quite easy. First off, you need to purchase one from the Trezor website or Amazon which will run you roughly $100 USD. If the Trezor is in stock, it will generally arrive within about one week of ordering. After you receive your wallet, everything you need to get started will be in the package – so just make sure you carefully follow the instructions on the pamphlet. This includes installing the Trezor Bridge Software and configuring your Trezor device with your computer.

Getting Started

After you have successfully finished installing your Trezor Software, Bridge and setting up the wallet, you will then be ready to start sending & receiving Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Zcash and DASH. Below we will outline how you can begin using your Trezor to complete cryptocurrency transactions.

Sending Bitcoins

Sending Bitcoins with your new Trezor Wallet is simple and takes only a few seconds. Whether you are a new Bitcoin owner or a veteran, you shouldn’t have any issues using the device and platform. The Trezor was actually the first Bitcoin hardware wallet I used back when I was still new to Bitcoin. I found it to be extremely simple. To this day, I still haven’t encountered any issues in about 1 year of using their wallet.

Just plug your Trezor in to your computer, head to wallet.trezor.io and click “Send Bitcoins”. From the Send page of your account, just input the amount of BTC you wish to send as well as the receiving address. Make sure to double check both fields thoroughly. Trezor will then display the amount in USD automatically using the latest price from their API. If you attempt to send a large amount of BTC, a warning message will pop up asking you to verify the amount one last time.

Click “Send” and confirm the numerical code on your Trezor Wallet. Make sure you also set the correct fee for your Bitcoin transaction. If you want your transaction to get confirmed on the blockchain more quickly, select a higher fee. Lower fees will take longer but will cost you less BTC.

Receiving Bitcoins

Receiving Bitcoins is just as easy as sending. Simply plug your wallet in to your computer, follow the same steps above and head to the “Receive Bitcoins” tab on your Trezor account. Then you can either view past addresses or generate a new address to receive the Bitcoins. Just copy the address and provide it to the sender.

Trezor User Interface

The dashboard and interface that the Trezor Wallet uses is one of the most user-friendly platforms out there. The menu is laid out in such a way that you can quickly navigate to whichever section of the service you are looking for with ease. The site loads very fast, and all pages are clearly marked (i.e. “Send” “Receive” “Transactions” etc.).

You can view all of your prior transactions at any time, whether they were made on your current address or a different one. The Trezor platform now functions similar to an online bank account by also displaying the BTC value in USD for all of your transaction history. This enables you to view the current USD value of your Bitcoin holdings as well as all sent and received Bitcoins in the past.

Satoshi Labs Company Overview

Satoshi Labs has been a longstanding innovator in Bitcoin and Blockchain security. Beside the popular Trezor Hardware Wallet, they also operate two additional Bitcoin services; Slush Pool and CoinMap. Slush Pool is the first Bitcoin Mining Pool while CoinMap is one of the first, full lists of merchants that accept Bitcoin as a payment. They continue to create new Bitcoin services, applications and products.

Security Features

The Trezor Hardware Wallet is one of the most convenient and easy to use platforms for Bitcoin storage. You can add extra layers of security by enabling 2-factor authentication (2FA) for your Trezor account. To enable 2FA, simply plug your trezor in, head to your wallet and go to account settings. Then enable 2FA from the settings menu and configure it to your liking.

Buying Trezor Hardware Wallets

The Trezor Hardware Wallet may be available for sale on multiple websites. With that said, the best places to buy them are on buy.trezor.com or Amazon. These are the only true “Factory-direct” outlets where you can get your hands on a Trezor for the best price. The prices have changed on occasion in the past, but at the time of this review they are listed at Amazon for $114.99.
