CryptoPay Debit Card at a Glance

The Cryptopay Visa Bitcoin Debit Card is just one small piece of the much larger picture that is Cryptopay. Their debit card is, however, a very popular and important piece of the company. The Cryptopay Card can be used by individuals and is supported by merchants anywhere that traditional Visa debit cards are accepted, making it a convenient choice if you are looking to spend your BTC in USD, EUR and other fiat currencies.

Apart from the Cryptopay Visa debit card, there is also a virtual debit card platform that is provided by the company. This virtual card is mainly ideal for online shopping, since it does not include a physical plastic debit card.

Company Overview

The Cryptopay company has been operating since October 2013. This is the same year that the company began providing the Bitcoin Visa debit card to its customers. Started by two Russian-born Bitcoin enthusiasts, Dmitry Gunyashov and George Basiladze; the company is currently based in London, United Kingdom.

Since 2014, their active users have grown from essentially 0 all the way up to 167,000, and they have issued over 37,000 debit cards to date in total. These same users carry out about 100,000 transactions supported by Cryptopay services per month.

Apart from providing the debit card services, users can purchase, sell and store Bitcoin in the online wallet provided by Cryptopay. You can also convert USD, EUR, or GBP currencies into Bitcoin and vice-versa. The company has made sending and receiving money in various international currencies easy, fast, and inexpensive – ESPECIALLY when compared to traditional exchanges or financial institutions.

Cryptopay Card Supported Countries

Cryptopay’s Visa debit card can be accepted all over the world. However, the company is currently only able to issue physical debit cards to users in a limited number of countries. This is due to the legality of digital currency in certain countries around the world as well as government & financial regulations.

Supported countries currently include South Africa, Spain, France, Ukraine, Italy, Finland, Israel, UAE, and United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Iceland, Poland, Bulgaria, Canada, Norway, New Zealand, Russia, Netherlands and Mexico.

United States Users Not Accepted

It is worth noting that from the list of countries supported, Cryptopay does not accept the registration of accounts to residents in the United States. However, the debit card can still be used to make payments to vendors who are visiting the US or making purchases from online stores located here.

There are other countries that are not necessarily restricted, but can instead use the card only under strict rules. The citizens and residents of France, for instance, are required to carry out identity verification before registering for a debit card. This is a way of preventing any kind of anonymous use, and in-turn limit fraud and illegal activities. But the restrictions do not stop there; they also have their withdrawal limits capped at €1,000/month. Additionally, there is a maximum balance limit of €10,000 per card.

Fiat Currencies Supported

The fiat currencies supported by the Cryptopay Debit Card include US Dollars (USD), British Pounds (GBP), Euros (EUR), and of course, Bitcoin (BTC). These currencies are instantly displayed on the user’s account upon signing in, so there is no need to go through the tiresome process of adding a new currency if you ever decide to change your default currency.

In most cases, customers of Cryptopay also do not have to complete ID verification to use most of their online services. As long as you are comfortable with the lower debit card limits, you can continue in the same manner by exchanging Bitcoin to fiat currencies (like USD, GBP or EUR).

How to Apply for the Cryptopay Debit Card

Registering for a Cryptopay Visa Debit Card only takes a few minutes. All that you would be required to provide is an email address, your full name and a password. After that, you can go ahead and log in and use the platform at any time.

For the company to verify you, you may be required to present a government-issued Identification Card. These might also include passport, national ID, driver’s license or other valid government issued IDs.

For the purposes of proof of residency, tax returns, utility bills, and certificate of residency might also be required, but this is done on a case-by-case basis.

All the currencies that are supported are given separate bitcoin address where the customers can have an opportunity to load their bitcoin balances. The plastic debit cards provided by Cryptopay cost only $15 USD (or currency equivalent), while the virtual cards are given at a price of $2.50 USD.

Cryptopay Card Limits

The Cryptopay Visa debit card enables users that have been verified to withdraw up to $2,000 USD from an ATM on a daily basis, and there is always $10,000 USD limit that is given on each top-up. Alternatively, the company enables its users to use their other services without having to verify identity. However, in this particular instance, the limits of top-ups and ATM withdrawals are very low.

Users who have not been verified may withdraw $400 USD from ATMs on a daily basis. But this can only be allowed in a total number of $1,000 USD throughout the lifetime of the access.

The charges for foreign transactions are 3%; while the monthly fee for maintaining the card is $1 USD/EUR/GBP per month. Their loading fee, on the other hand, is always a flat 1% of the transaction cost.

Security Features of the Cryptopay Card

Cryptopay Debit Cards are one of the most secure options available in the entire industry. It is available with an option that allows two-factor authentication (2FA). All the communications and transactions that take place in the servers are professionally secured by Cryptopay’s advanced SSL encryption. Failure to interact with the Cryptopay interface amounts to an automatic log out. This is done to ensure that the accounts of users are secure at all times.

The company has not reported any incident of hacking since it started operations in the year 2013, which as you know is quite impressive for the cryptocurrency industry.

Cryptopay Online Banking Account

The online account has a customer interface that is secure and also very easy to use. Once you are logged in, you’ll be taken to the dashboard of your account. The account dashboard has four tabs; Accounts, Transfers, Send & Referrals.

The balances are displayed in various currencies on the Accounts tab. Users are required to verify their accounts once, but not every time you log in.

One of the biggest benefits that this debit card has over the others is that it provides services for the three most world currencies. The website is also well designed and easy to use.
